Third-Party Lab Reports

What's Actually In The Bottle

Not what's missing from it. What's in it.

Most medicinal mushroom brands that talk about lab testing are talking about one thing: proving their product won't hurt you. No heavy metals. No pesticides. No salmonella. That's a baseline, not a benchmark — it tells you a product is safe to swallow, not that it's worth swallowing.

Almost none of them show you what actually makes a medicinal mushroom extract work: the beta-glucans, triterpenes, cordycepin, and other bioactive compounds you're actually paying for. And the handful of brands that do publish "lab results" often ran the test themselves, in their own facility, on their own terms — which is a little like grading your own exam.

At Mindfull Mycology, our extracts are tested by an independent, third-party laboratory — not our lab, not a lab we own a stake in — for the specific medicinal compounds that make each species valuable in the first place. We publish the results. All of them. Not a "pesticide-free" badge. The actual numbers.

Why We Do This

Sam started making Lion's Mane and Reishi extracts years before Mindfull Mycology existed, with one goal: make the most potent extract possible. Not the cheapest. Not the one with the best margins. The most potent. That's still the only goal.

Following the science instead of the crowd means we don't get to hide behind vague words like "premium" or "high-quality" — words any company can print on a label for free. It means consistently testing batches, publishing what the testing actually finds, and changing our process when the data says we should, even if that's slower or costs more than doing it the easy way.

What We Test For

Every species has its own marker compounds — the ones the research actually points to. We test for the ones that matter for each extract we sell, which may include:

  • Beta-glucans — the primary immune-supporting polysaccharides in Reishi, Turkey Tail, Chaga, and Lion's Mane
  • Triterpenes — the compounds Reishi and Chaga are most valued for, and one of the first things a diluted or low-quality Reishi or Chaga extract will fail to show
  • Cordycepin — the gold standard compound in Cordyceps militaris extract
  • Hericenones and erinacines — the neurotrophic compounds unique to Lion's Mane

Independent testing has repeatedly found that a large share of mushroom products on the market — including ones sold as "extracts" — contain little to no detectable amounts of the compounds they're supposed to be delivering.

In a 2017 study sponsored by the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention and published in Nature's Scientific Reports, researchers analyzed 19 commercial Reishi products; only 5 could be verified as authentic Ganoderma lucidum, and 58% contained zero detectable triterpenes, the very compound Reishi is prized for in the first place.

Additionally, a more recent independent lab analysis of 30 lion's-mane supplements sold across the EU and UK, tested through Technological University of the Shannon with funding from Enterprise Ireland, found Hericenones, the compound most people are actually buying lion's mane for, undetectable in every single sample.

Beta-glucan readings on those same products swung wildly, from under 5% to an implausible 82% (a sign of inflated, gamed testing, not a genuine extract), and only 2 of the 30 showed high-confidence triterpene levels. That's the industry we're publishing against.

Every Batch, Verified

Your extract is only as good as the batch it comes from. That's why we regularly test batches, not just a one-off product line test— so the number on the report reflects the bottle in your hand, not just a formulation on paper.

Find our latest lab reports for each extract on its respective product page.

Read Them Yourself

Below, you'll find the current third-party lab reports for our extracts, organized by product. Every report is unedited and published in full — not excerpted, not summarized by us first.

Publishing the data is only half of it. Every extract also carries our 30-day guarantee: try it, check the report yourself, and if it doesn't hold up, we'll refund your order — no return required. We're not worried about you checking our work, and we're not worried about you trying the product.

FAQ

Why isn't every product's report posted yet? Because this is still a rather immature industry in North America, there aren't easily accessible testing standards for certain compounds. When we started six years ago, standards for Reishi and Cordyceps weren't readily available for small businesses like us. Now, they thankfully are. That's why lab reports with those highly sought after compounds are front and center on our current COA page.

With that said, Hericenones aren't easily tested for, though Erinacines are. That's why we're currently in the lab working on releasing a Lion's Mane product with verifiable Erinacine levels that we'll begin offering in 2027.

As the industry matures and more testing standards are released at prices companies like ours can afford to regularly utilize, we'll continue releasing more COAs and stay at the forefront of testing. To stay up-to-date on these lab results, sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of this page.

Who runs these tests — is this your own lab? No. We typically use Altitude Consulting, a firm in Colorado, for our analytical testing. Their lab is accredited to the ISO 17025 standard for testing, the international gold standard for analytical labs that proves their technical competency. Altitude Consulting is independent of Mindfull Mycology; we don't own it, staff it, or have a financial stake in it. That separation is the entire point — a lab report only means something if the company being tested doesn't also control the results.

What exactly are you testing for? The specific bioactive compounds each species is known for — beta-glucans, triterpenes, cordycepin, and similar marker compounds depending on the mushroom. We don't just screen for contaminants. That's the bare minimum. We go above and beyond to show you what's in he bottle, not just what's not ion there.

Do you also test for contaminants like heavy metals or pesticides? Though we have in the past, this is not a series of tests we regularly perform. By growing the mushrooms ourselves, we're able to "know" what a lot of the other companies do not know about the source, inputs and life of their mushrooms. That said, this is something we plan to increase our testing regularity of as our business matures.

What if a report doesn't look the way I expected? Ask us. Every report is unedited and posted in full, including the parts that are just process data rather than a "good news" number. If something's unclear, that's a conversation, not something we'll hide behind support-ticket silence — and our 30-day guarantee means you're never stuck holding a product you don't trust.

How often are reports updated? We regularly test batches to ensure our processes are producing consistency potent products. As new reports come due, we will post them here. At a minimum, you can expect new lab results to be published/updated annually.
